Skin

Skin is the largest organ in the body. It covers all other organs, and has the important role of keeping some things in and other things out. The skin also helps regulate body temperature and prevents excess fluid loss, and it also helps your body remove excess water and salt.
Because exposure to the sun causes about 80 percent of the skin changes associated with aging, protecting the skin from the sun is the single most important skin care practice you can adopt.
Most sun damage occurs prior to the age of 18, but skin cancer can take up to 20 or more years to develop; children who experience as few as two to three sunburns are believed to have an increased risk of developing skin cancer later in life.
A few common areas that can help with skin care are included:

•  SLIP, SLOP , SLAP- Slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen and slap on a hat! Very good pieces of advice. Skin cancer is an increasing problem in England.

•  Stay out of the sun, during summer. Avoid the English tradition of lying next to the pool from 10am till 4pm in summer, when on holiday in Spain

•  Make sure when you use a sunscreen you use a factor 15 or a factor 30. This is vital.

•  Look out for moles or sunspots that change in appearance. If this happens get it checked out.

•  When shaving, try to shave after a shower, when the skin has been softened, and go with the grain of your skin, by shaving down rather than up

•  To avoid fungal infections, dry well between your toes and groin. If a fungal infection occurs, antifungal ointments are available over the counter, but you may need to see a GP
